Canine University will be closed the following week (reopening Tuesday 2/21) so please be sure you can come by this week before placing an order. If you are presently well-stocked, the next ‘meat meet’ has been scheduled for the week of March 13.

While everything listed on our site is available for this order, we do have monthly specials… Seeing as the meat meet comes the same week as Valentines’s Day, February’s special is whole Pork Hearts. Fresh-frozen and priced @ $1.79 per pound, hearts are categorized as muscle meat and thus a more affordable means of supplying protein from than (for example) ground chuck. We chunk these for our dogs, and at 2000mg per kilo they are also an excellent source of Taurine for all the kitties Feel free to add some to your order, and/or I’ll plan on having some smaller batches if you want to try these when picking up.

Please navigate our site & you’ll see that Bone Depot features a wide variety of USDA inspected, human-grade meat and raw bones for those who are feeding a BARF or Prey Model diet to their 4-legged carnivore (dog, cat, ferret, etc). You can order minimum quantities as low as 5 pounds (depending on the item) without committing freezer space to something your dog mightn’t like. We also have a chest freezer set up at Canine University, from which we sell residual box lots in small quantities as well as the best center-cut Beef Marrow Bones you’ll find anywhere! Co-ops as well as groups of friends are encouraged to place case orders, which are further discounted.

With the deadline for ordering for our next meat meet three weeks away, fret not if you are in need of something between now and then. This past week I was able to pick up- among other things- tom turkey wings, some lean pork loin trim, chicken rib cages, and lamb necks. I do have store hours this week, and will make a concerted effort to update not only these but also keep the homepage’s current offerings accurate. If you are looking for quantities of 15 pounds or more, best to email me a day or so before you planned on coming over and I’ll be happy to set some aside for you

Have been doing some shopping of late, and as you may have noticed the price of regular 80/20 ground beef is still quite high. The way I figure it, if I’m spending this much for my pack for beef it had better be of premium quality. So, I’ve lined up an order of something called Peeled Knuckle, which is leaner than most ground beef available at your local grocer. I am making this January’s special, you may want to pre-order some as it is certified hormone and antibiotic-free!!

Elsewhere in wholesale-land:
Chicken remains a consistently good value with whole wings being the exception. Guess it has to do with their popularity with the sports-viewing crowd…NBA basketball is back, college hoops are surging toward March Madness, the Bruins are playing extremely well, and the Patriots are in the postseason. Have adjusted pricing for these accordingly as they are costing me more, and would suggest anyone seeking whole wings to consider “B” wings, they are significantly less pound for pound as the bones are broken, which is fine- even a god thing- for those of us giving them to our companion animals. “V” wings (ie drumette removed) are an even better value.
Now that the holidays are over, Turkey and Duck prices have stabilized. I actually have some all-natural duck legs at Canine University which your dog would drool over and you’ll be pleased to know these are also hormone and antibiotic-free. These are retailing for much more at the natural grocer closest to us.
Lastly, Pork and (especially) Lamb pricing is on the high side. I had someone order lamb necks for the meat meet so I will have those next week. And I PROMISE to have center-cut beef marrow bones back in stock: you can pre-order these by weight, or if you want to add some when you come by I package these individually for Canine University’s students: $2 apiece, or three for $5.

I’m pleased to relay that we have successfully found nine wonderful families, and Zuma’s pups will be headed home this weekend. Kind of goes without saying that naturally rearing these beautiful boys and girls has preoccupied us for several weeks, and it dawned on me that we haven’t had a food delivery since the end of October!

Well let’s see…I picked up some Bell and Evans Leg Quarters but these are now gone. Also got some turkey necks, I have about 5-10 pounds left, they are young tom so big but not huge. Turkey wings are very meaty, quite large but not unmanageable.
I was also able to re-stock on Duck Necks, if you are looking for something duck but meatier I do still have a good amount of Duck Legs. And I also have some nice ground turkey in tubes.
I’ve been accused (rightly so) of not keeping up with the blog…so am going to post hours this week and next. I also promise to update any changes to cash & carry items nightly. Hands have been full helping Zuma raise a litter of pups (naturally reared, and all spoken for), they are now in their 4th week and we are getting ready to start feeding them raw meat and bones. I may end up ordering between now and the next posted delivery, so if you are seeking something on the sooner side by all means e-mail me, I may even have some ready to go!

Just dawned on me that there is an order coming in next week, the deadline to order some duck, beef, turkey, etc etc is this Friday 11/4.

These are not the only hours that Canine University will be open, just the least disruptive/preferred for pickups…hit ‘reply’ to make alternate arrangements. Also, during the daytime Canine University’s doggy daycare is closed for lunch (for about an hour) anywhere from Noon-3pm; if you anticipate coming by during these times you should pre-arrange this so that we can plan accordingly.

Once everything is here, I will update what is available for ‘cash and carry’ at Canine University as well. If you don’t need anything presently our next scheduled delivery will be on December 6, with a deadline of 12/2….

From this week’s delivery I have been able to stock up on some things-

Duck is the hot item of late; I just got some skinless necks in. if you are looking for something meatier I also have duck leg quarters available and at a great price!

Speaking of meaty, we just got some pork hocks, segmented and ready to go. Seeking meat without the bone? I have been selling a lot of ground turkey- and have some for sale @ Canine University presently- probably because beef has been pricey since the spring.

I still have a couple of Beef Hearts from our last order if you are looking to give them something extremely lean. Another option for you to add some organ meat to your dog’s diet: I divided a box of Pork Kidneys into roughly 2lb portions.

I apologize for not keeping up with hours etc on the website…our Zuma recently had a litter of puppies, keeping us rather busy. The next delivery will be on Tuesday November 8, but as Zuma’s litter is being naturally reared I will probably be buying RMB once or twice between now and then, so feel free to shoot me an email I may be able to get you what you are seeking sooner.

I updated the “menu” of this week’s meat for sale @ Canine U, and realized later that there are some other choice items which I have in stock!! I have some Pork Hock, skin on and fresh-frozen;
Whole Beef Heart- cryovac & easy to slice or chop when chilled, refreezes nicely;
Duck Leg Quarters, restaurant grade & as meaty as they come.
Add in some Bell and Evans Chicken Necks, and I have Ground Turkey tubes if you need some meat.

Also, if you have room in your freezer I am hoping to take advantage of some end-of-season pricing on duck my wholesalers have (and pass the savings on to you). This relates to duck necks, duck frames and duck liver only. So, if you have room in your freezer by all means add some duck to your order, you’ll be glad you did

Replenishing the stores, I may be adding to the inventory should I get some good deals from the wholesalers this week. I can tell you know that I’m getting many Turkey Necks in, as well as some very nice Duck Necks; both are skinless, our dogs being Goldens they are partial to the latter but don’t turn their noses up at turkey either.  As for my sister-in-law’s Maine Coon, it’s duck all the way!!!

Canine University is closed next week, I will have hours there this week and starting up again on Monday, August 1.
